A Guide to Door Belt Weatherstrip (Window Fuzzies) Replacement

3 June 2025

Back to all articles

Those felt-lined strips where the glass meets the door skin do a lot of quiet work. Here is how to renew them.

Door belt weatherstrips — the felt- or flock-lined strips that run along the top of the door skin, inside and out, where the window glass passes through — wipe water and grit off the glass and seal the top of the door. Owners often call them window "fuzzies" or scraper seals.

Why replace them

When they wear out, water runs down inside the door (rusting it from the inside), the glass rattles, and grit scratches the window. Fresh belt strips quiet the doors and keep the insides dry.

Fitting

Most clip or screw to the top of the door skin. Note the inner and outer profiles — they differ — and make sure the felt lip leans against the glass so it wipes as the window moves. Do the outer and inner strips together for a proper seal.
